Hi Carolina,
What a great website I stumbled upon. My family (me, husband, three children: 18, 15, 12) will be in Ecuador for ten days visiting friends. We will have about 8 days left to go off on our own. We want to travel to Peru and see Lima, and of course Machu Picchu. The kids want to see Lake Titicaca for obvious reasons, and I’m interested in seeing Sacred Valley. Is this a realistic itineray for about eight days?
We are on a budget since most of our expenses will be in Ecuador. I am thinking about traveling by train from Ecuador through Peru to really see the country.
Any suggestions… ANY you can give to help me plan this trip would be so greatly appreciated!!! I don’t know where to start!
Thank you,
Amiee
Hello, Amiee!
What a wonderful trip! I think it is a realistic itinerary, but you’re going to be very tight on time.
Going to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley is four days alone, and you need to get there by plane. Going to Lake Titicaca will be another two days and then you have a couple of days to see Lima. It would also depend on the hours your planes (or means of transportations) arrive and leave.
I understand there is a budget, but when there’s so little time, I suggest you spend more money on transportation that is efficient and lodging as close to the attractions as possible. If that’s still not doable, then let me suggest you don’t cover all your destinations on this one trip. Maybe do Lima and Machu Picchu for this one and maybe do Lak Titicaca and Nazca the next time you visit.
For Machu Picchu you stay in Cusco. Any hotel there will help you arrange your excursion to the ruins.
